4Fun, a male acapella “boy-band”, formed in October 1988 at Winnipeg Bible College (now Providence University College) with D. Bruce Moore on lead, Dale Enns tenor, David Kruse baritone, and Dan Friesen bass.

Their goal: perform various styles of acapella music and sing in each of their home churches.

Finding sheet music was, at times, difficult, propelling Moore to apply his burgeoning college music training to adapt an eclectic mix of hymns and 50’s “do-whop” while eventually writing 4Fun originals.

The more they sang, the more doors opened. Churches, youth groups, high schools, community centres, and youth retreats.  They recorded their first album and sold out their first batch of cassette tapes in record time. The College adopted them as an ambassador touring group, providing them with access to sound equipment, a touring van, and various venues to perform. Fellow student, Chris Derksen, ran sound while Martin Kimball often joined them on drums.

Their second recording effort (1990) was a smaller release of one original and one cover tune, but higher quality, having learned much from their freshman efforts in the analogue studio.

In spite of Friesen and Moore having graduated with Bachelor’s of Arts, 4Fun managed to keep performing by renting a farm house together at the corner of highways 59 and #1 in Winnipeg. Sadly, their sound man, Chris Derksen, died that summer in a tree-planting accident. He was replaced by freshman James Samanta.

In the spring of 1992, just before Kruse and Enns graduated, 4Fun had their final tour and, other than reuniting to sing at each other’s weddings, completed an entirely unexpected run of music ministry and…. Fun!

Fast forward to 2025….
